Lift well, repeat often, keep the plan boring

Pine Room is a one-room studio for adults who want coached strength work with a written plan behind it — not a different workout every week and no idea whether it is working.

Session length
55 minutes, including warm-up and the week's notes.
What you get
A written block, logged sessions and a plan you keep.
Room size
Two clients maximum at any time, by appointment only.
Starting point
First session is an assessment — no fitness test to pass.
The approach

A plan written down, then progressed on purpose

Every block opens with a 55-minute assessment: what you have trained before, what hurts, what your week realistically allows. From that we write an eight-week plan with named lifts, set and rep targets, and a rough load to start from.

You train the same core movements most weeks. The weights, tempo or range change instead of the exercises, because that is the only way to tell whether anything improved. Sessions are logged in the studio and you get the log at the end of the block.

  • Coaching is hands-on — lifts are taught, cued and corrected, not demonstrated once.
  • Loads are chosen from your last logged session, not from how the day feels.
  • If a movement aggravates something, it is swapped the same session and noted.
  • Blocks end with a review, so you decide whether to continue with real information.

Training formats

Three ways to work with the room

All three run on the same eight-week structure. The difference is how much of it happens in the studio with a coach beside you.

Format 01

One-to-one strength

For people starting barbell and dumbbell work, returning after a long gap, or training around a specific joint.

  • Twice-weekly coached sessions, same time slot each week
  • Written eight-week block with named lifts and target ranges
  • Technique work on squat, hinge, press, row and carry patterns
  • Mid-block adjustment session and an end-of-block review
  • Two optional solo plans for the weeks you train elsewhere
Format 02

Pairs conditioning

For two people training together — partners, friends or colleagues — who want structure without one-to-one pacing.

  • Once or twice weekly, two clients to one coach
  • Shared warm-up, then individual loads on the same movements
  • Conditioning finisher built around rowing, sled and carries
  • Separate logs, so you progress at your own pace
  • Fixed pair slot held for the whole block
Format 03

Remote programming

For people who already train confidently in their own gym but keep repeating the same month.

  • Eight-week written block built around your gym's equipment
  • One studio session at the start to check the main lifts
  • Weekly written feedback on your logged sessions
  • Video review on up to three lifts per block
  • Rewrite at week five if the schedule or body changes

Current timetable

Slots are held for the length of a block. Mornings fill first; the late Wednesday and Friday slots are usually the easiest to join mid-block.

  • Monday One-to-one strength
Lower-body emphasis, squat and hinge teaching
    One-to-one 06:30 — 11:30
  • Tuesday Pairs conditioning
Shared warm-up, individual loads, sled finisher
    Pairs 07:00 — 10:00, 17:30 — 19:30
  • Wednesday One-to-one strength
Upper-body emphasis, press and row progressions
    One-to-one 08:00 — 13:00, 18:00 — 20:00
  • Thursday Assessments & reviews
New blocks, mid-block adjustments, movement screens
    By appointment 09:00 — 14:00
  • Friday One-to-one strength
Full-body session, carries and single-leg work
    One-to-one 06:30 — 12:00, 16:00 — 19:00
  • Saturday Open technique hour
Current clients only — practise lifts with coaching on hand
    Drop-in 09:00 — 11:00

Remote programming check-ins are written on Sundays. The studio is closed Sunday and on the Thursday of a block changeover week.

Reviews & progress markers

What gets measured, and when

Progress is read from the log and a short list of markers chosen in your first session — usually a load, a position and something from your week outside the gym.

01

Week one — assessment

Movement screen, honest training history and three markers written down. Starting loads are set conservatively on purpose.

02

Weeks two to four — load

Same movements, rising load or reps. Technique notes are added to the log so cues stay consistent between sessions.

03

Week five — adjustment

A short review session. Anything that has stalled, aggravated a joint or stopped fitting your week gets rewritten.

04

Week eight — review

Markers re-checked against week one, the full log handed over, and a decision about what the next block should focus on.

Practical things worth knowing

Bring

Flat shoes you can stand in, a towel and water. Chalk, belts, straps and bands are in the room, so there is nothing to buy before your first session.

Arriving

The door is unlocked five minutes before each slot. There is one changing room and a shower; sessions start and finish on the hour, so the room is never shared beyond two clients.

Rescheduling

Sessions moved with at least a day's notice are rebooked into the same week where the timetable allows. Blocks interrupted by illness or travel are extended rather than written off.

Between sessions

Most clients train once on their own each week. That session is written for you and takes about 35 minutes with ordinary gym equipment.

Questions

Before you enquire

I have never lifted weights. Is this the wrong place to start?

It is a common starting point. First blocks for complete beginners spend most of week one on positions with light loads or no load at all, and the barbell often does not appear until week two or three. Nothing in the assessment is a test.

How often do I need to train for a block to be worth it?

Two sessions a week is the honest minimum, and that can be one coached plus one on your own. One session a week maintains technique but rarely moves the markers, so blocks are written around two.

I have an old injury or a condition my physio manages. Can you work around it?

Usually yes, within limits. Bring whatever guidance you already have, including any movements you have been told to avoid, and the block is written around it. Coaching here is training, not treatment, so anything that needs assessment or rehabilitation stays with your clinician.

How is pricing structured?

By block rather than by single session, because the plan, the mid-block rewrite and the review are part of what you are paying for. Cost depends on the format and how many coached sessions a week it includes. The reply to your enquiry sets out the options for the format you asked about.

What happens if I miss a session?

With a day's notice it is moved into the same week if the timetable allows. Late cancellations use the slot. If you lose more than two weeks to illness, work or travel, the block pauses and resumes rather than expiring.

Can I train remotely if I travel for work?

Yes — remote programming exists for that, and clients often move between formats between blocks. Travel weeks get a version of the plan written for whatever equipment is available, including hotel-gym versions where needed.

Do you take on clients training for a sport or an event?

For general strength alongside a sport, yes, and the block is built to leave room for your own training. Sport-specific technical coaching is better handled by a specialist in that discipline.

What is the longest you work with someone?

Blocks are reviewed every eight weeks and continuing is always a decision, not a default. Some clients do one block and leave with a plan they can run alone — that is a good outcome, not a lost client.

Enquire

Ask about the next block

Tell us roughly what you want to train for and which part of the week works. You will get a reply with the slots that fit, the format that suits and what the block costs.

  • No obligation — the first reply is information, not a booking.
  • Assessments run on Thursdays and start every new block.
  • If the block is full, you are told the next start date straight away.
